Swift action from Paarl police early this morning has resulted in the arrest of six suspected armed robbers, the recovery of three firearms and the confiscation of cash and electronic equipment.
Members reacted swiftly after receiving information about an armed robbery in progress at a club in Lady Grey Street, Paarl. The members pursued the suspected vehicle after the suspects fled the scene. The chase ended in Plein Street Paarl, where members from Paarl SAPS cornered and arrested the suspects. The suspects, who consist of five males and one female – all in the late 20’s -, were arrested; three firearms, two revolvers and one pistol with ammunition, money and electronic equipment were recovered.
It is alleged that the suspects entered the club just after 02:00 today and threatened the patrons at gunpoint after which they fired a shot and robbed them.
Personal belongings including money, from the safes and slot machines, and cellular telephones were taken. Two victims were pistol whipped and sustained minor injuries before the suspects fled the scene.
The suspects were detained and will be charged with armed robbery, attempted murder, and the possession of firearms and ammunition. Other charges may be added as the investigation continues; the suspects will appear in the Paarl magistrate soon.
