A man was critically injured during an accident on the R54 Potchefstroom Vereeniging road approximately forty kilometres from Potchefstroom this evening.
Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found that a light utility vehicle and a heavy goods vehicle had collided head-on. The scene was scattered with accident debris as the heavy goods vehicle’s wheel drove over the light utility vehicle resulting in the vehicle being ripped apart and the male driver being flung out of the vehicle.
Paramedics found the thirty-five-year-old man lying on the ground and upon assessment found the man to be in a critical condition.
The Netcare1 helicopter was activated to airlift the critically injured man to hospital for the urgent and specialised treatment that he required.
The two occupants of the heavy goods vehicle were not injured during the head-on collision.
Exact detail surrounding the cause of the head-on crash and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation.
