4 Injured in Umbilo crash

Four people have been injured one seriously so after two vehicles collided before the one vehicle mounted the pavement and hit a pedestrian at the intersection of Hilier Road and Teignmouth Road in Umbilo on Sunday night around 05:30pm.

Rescue Care Advanced Life Support paramedic who arrived first at the scene was met with chaos. Two vehicles had collided in teh junction before one of the vehicles had lost control and collided with a pedestrian which then flew over the barrier and down approximately two metres. Immediately three ambulances were dispatched to the scene to deal with the multiple casualty scene. The pedestrian had sustained serious injuries with multiple fractures and was stabilized by Rescue Care’s Advanced Life Support Paramedic before being transported to a nearby hospital for the further care that he required. Three other occupants from both vehicles were stabilized on the scene before also being transported by Rescue Care to nearby hospitals.

At this stage it is unclear what caused the collision however it is alleged that one of the vehicles failed to yield at the stop street. SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
