Six men have been killed this evening after a head-on collision on the N2 in Riversdal, Western Cape.
When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene, they found a bakkie and light motor vehicle lying in the middle of the road. Both vehicles had sustained a serious amount of damage in the collision.
On assessment, paramedics found that provincial services had already extricated the patients from the vehicles.
Unfortunately, five of the patients had already succumbed to their multiple, fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done for the patients and they were declared dead.
Two other patients were found on scene in critical condition. Paramedics treated the patients and provided them with advanced life support.
Once treated, the patients were transported by provincial services to Riversdal Hospital for urgent treatment.
Unfortunately, on route to hospital, one of the patients succumbed to his injuries.
The cause of the collision is under investigations by local authorities.
