Illegal firearms recovered in KZN after tip-off

On 18 September 2015 at a out 03:00, the National Intervention Unit was doing their normal investigation at Meden area when they received information about illegal firearms in the area. The members went to the identified homesteads which they raided and found a total of five illegal firearms that they recovered in the different homesteads.

The recovered firearms include: one AK 47 rifle, two shotguns, a pistol and a revolver.

Three suspects, aged between 19 and 42, were arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearms; another suspect was found in a possession of a shotgun, pistol and an AK 47 rifle.

All three suspects remained in custody and will appear in the Grey town Magistrate’s Court today.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the arrests and recovery of unlicensed firearms.
