On Sunday morning at around 10h00 Netcare 911 paramedics received a call for a diver that has stopped breathing . Reports from the scene indicate that the diver was at 18 meters off Grannies pool in Umhlanga, she surfaced after doing decompression stops and when she got to the surface she stopped breathing. Exact detail to the cause of the incident however is still a matter for investigation.
Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the lifeguards doing CPR. The advanced life support paramedics placed the lady on a ventilator and continued with resuscitation. After extensive effort medics managed to regain the patients heartbeat.
After the patient was stabilised at the beach they transported her to a local Umhlanga hospital for the care that she required.
