Saturday morning Netcare 911 and the Fire department responded to the scene of a house fire in Bulwer Street Pietermaritzburg. Details to the cause of the fire are still speculative and will remain a subject for investigation.
When paramedics arrived at the scene they found firefighters battling the blaze, report were given that a man was still trapped in the building. While efforts were made to bring the fire under control they found a pet snake that had sustained burns. Medics treated the snake and called for the SPCA to come and fetch it. After the fire was extinguished it was established that the man had tragically died in the fire.
