Illegal firearm recovered in Lentegeur

On Saturday 2016-01-02 at about 06:00, Mitchells Plain SAPS members were attending a shooting scene in Hengelaar street, Beacon Valley. While at the scene, members heard gunshots fired in nearby Korfbal street. Upon arrival police spotted three suspects who fled the scene on foot. Following up information from members of the community, police were led to a house in Waterlilly street, Lentegeur where the three suspects were found inside the house.

Police searched the suspects and the house and found a .38 special Revolver containing 5 live rounds of ammunition hidden in the ceiling. During the initial investigation no records of a stolen firearm was found or reported, and none of the three suspects took ownership thereof.

Two males aged 19 years were detained at Lentegeur police station and will appear in court today, Monday 2016-01-04, on a charge of discharging a firearm in a municipal area and illegal possession of firearm is being investigated by police.
