The driver of a bakkie and several of his employees were fortunate to escape uninjured when their bakkie caught alight on the N2 towards the R102 near Port Shepstone earlier today. It is alleged that the occupants saw smoke billowing out from behind the vehicle. They immediately stopped and all managed to all exit the vehicle safely. The fire spread rapidly and completely destroyed the vehicle.
Fire fighters from Ugu District Disaster Management centre on the adjacent property saw the fire and responded to the incident.
Paramedics from the KZN Department of Heaths Emergency Medical Services assed the vehicle’s occupants and confirmed that they had not sustained any injuries.
The exact cause of the fire is not known.
