At approximately 12:30 Saturday afternoon EMER-G-MED’s RV6, M07 and A01 as well as other services were dispatched to a truck that went over a bridge on Ballyclare Drive, in Riverclub.
It’s believed that the driver lost control in the sharp bend, collided with the barrier and flipped over the embankment and landed on it’s side.
On assessment paramedics found the truck’s passenger walking around and, remarkably, uninjured. The driver was heavily entrapped within the wreckage – and was seriously injured. EMER-G-MED Advanced Life Support paramedics began stabalising the patient, whilst the fire department worked effortlessly to cut the driver free – using “The Jaws Of Life”.
Once freed the patient was transported by EMER-G-MED to a nearby trauma hospital under Advanced Life Support care.
Local authorities were on-scene to investigate the events leading up to the collision.
