A man was killed this morning after a taxi and four vehicles collided on Jakes Gerwel Road in Mitchells Plain in the Western Cape.
ER24 paramedics, along with rescue services, arrived on the scene and found several wrecked vehicles, including the taxi, blocking the double lane road.
When paramedics inspected one of the light motor vehicles, they found the lifeless body of a man lying trapped inside his vehicle.
On assessment, paramedics found that the man had already succumbed to his multiple fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done for the patient and he was declared dead on scene.
Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the deceased from the vehicle.
Fortunately, no other injuries were reported among the other motorists on scene.
The driver of the taxi was apparently not found on the scene.
Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
