A woman, believed to be in her late 20s, was killed in the early hours of this morning after she was electrocuted in the Jika Joe rural settlement on East Street in Pietermaritzburg.
ER24 paramedics were called to the scene by local authorities who had come across the incident.
Once on scene, paramedics found the body of a woman lying on the muddy ground near some exposed wires.
On assessment, paramedics found that the patient had sustained a severe burn wound to her hand and back and showed no signs of life.
Unfortunately nothing could be done for the patient and she was declared dead on scene.
It is believed the woman had been walking along when she tripped and fell into the exposed wires, which had been apparently illegally connected.
Local authorities were on scene to disconnect the connections and for further investigations.
