At 18h50 on Thursday evening Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a collision on the N3 about one kilometre from Hammersdale. Reports from the scene indicate that the vehicle with two occupants was traveling towards Pietermaritzburg when they veered off the road and plunged down a steep embankment, the wreckage coming to rest in the Durban bound lane.
Medics arriving at the scene, found that one man appears to have been ejected from the vehicle, and were lying in the roadway. Tragically, the man died on scene due to the extensive injuries that he sustained. The other occupant from the vehicle sustained serious injuries.
Medics stabilised the injured man at the scene before they transported him to a provincial facility for the care that he required.
