On Saturday morning at 10h52 Netcare 911 paramedics received a call for a man that had been attacked with a Panga at the Groot Vallei informal settlement in Pyramid, Hammanskraal. Reports from the scene indicate that the Zimbabwean man aged 22 was allegedly attacked and robbed by unknown people.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the man had sustained a severe blow with what was described as a panga across his spine. With the man having severe spinal injuries and a loss of sensation to the legs paramedics called for the Netcare medical Helicopter to assist in safe transportation to hospital.
The man was stabilised at the scene and after they deftly immobilised his spine on a trauma board, they airlifted him to a specialised hospital for the care that he required.
