16 people were injured in a collision that occurred on the M1 near the Shakespeare off ramp earlier today. The collision involved a taxi and two light motor vehicles. It is believed that one vehicle came to a standstill which led to a domino effect leading to two other vehicles colliding. Traffic is heavily affected in the area and it is advised to make use of alternative routes where possible.
When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene they found that all the injuries that were sustained ranged from minor to serious. ER24 treated and transported one patient to Lilian Ngoyi Hospital for further treatment. The remaining patients were treated and transported by other medical services on scene.
The cause of the incident remains unknown, local authorities were on scene for further investigation.
