Two people were injured this morning after a transformer exploded in a parking lot at a shopping centre in Southgate, south of Johannesburg.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and were immediately lead to where they found the two patients.
On assessment, paramedics discover that the man had sustained burn wounds over most of his body, leaving him in a critical condition. A woman was found with moderate burns to her body.
Paramedics immediately began to treat the patients and provide them with numerous advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the critically injured patient was airlifted by a private medical helicopter while the woman was transported by ambulance. Both patients were transported to a private hospital in Johannesburg.
The cause of this incident is not yet known.
