KZN MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Themba Mthembu in his capacity as the MEC Champion of Umzinyathi District was part of a multi-disciplinary law enforcement road block with the purpose of promoting road safety awareness. He was accompanied by the KZN HOD for Department of Transport, Mr Sibusiso Gumbi and KZN Transport Chief Director for Public Regulatory Entity, Mr Sifundiswa Lunga.
The operation started at the Dundee taxi rank, with the MEC engaging taxi drivers and passengers about road safety. He also handed out passenger rights charter pamphlets to inform them about their rights. Some of these rights are to refuse to board an overloaded taxi or bus and decline to board an unroadworthy taxi or bus.
