Dog saved from fire in the suburb of Sunningdale, north of Durban.

At approximately 17:30 on Friday evening, Marshall Security were alerted to a house fire at a residence in Round The Green, in the suburb of Sunningdale, north of Durban.

A call was made for the assistance of the Ethekwini Fire and Rescue Services whilst armed reaction officers and Marshall Security Special Operations Team members secured the area. The fire appeared to have started in the garage before spreading to a flat-let above. A neighbor alerted emergency services to the fact that their were still animals in the property and a member of the Marshall Security Special Operations Team, bravely jumped a fence to the rear of the property, managing to locate a female jack russel, who was in visable distress.

The injured dog was wrapped up in a bath towel supplied by one of the neighbours, before being passed over the wall to an awaiting Marshall Security Medical Support Member as well as an Emergency Care Practitioner from Netcare 911. Swift action from both saw the dog placed into the Marshall Security Medical Support Unit and rushed through to nearby Ashburne Emergency Veterinary Hospital.

Reports from the Vetenarian are that the dog suffered first degree burns, and severe shock as well as suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. She remains in a serious but stable condition.

A fervent effort from fire fighters ensured that the fire did not spread to the main house. The cause of the blaze is unknown, however the necessary investigations will be conducted.
