At approximately 06h40 on Friday morning 01 September 2017, Netcare 911 responded to reports of a very serious collision on the R716 between Vanderbijlpark and Deneysville, in the Sedibeng area.
Upon arrival, paramedics found that two cars had been involved in a head-on collision. The incident and preceding events will form part of a police investigation.
Tragically both drivers had sustained severe injuries and died prior to the arrival of the emergency teams. Both drivers were male, one was sixty years old and the other is believed to be approximately thirty years old.
They were still trapped in the wrecks and fire fighters had to use specialized hydraulic equipment (Jaws of Life) to access and free them from the vehicles.
They both appeared to be alone in their cars and nobody else was injured in the incident.
The road has been temporarily closed while police investigate the scene. Traffic is being diverted via an alternate route.
It is unclear how long the road will be closed for and motorists are advised to expect delays.
