At approximately 09h45 on Tuesday morning 12 September 2017, Netcare 911 responded to reports of a very serious collision on the M4 near La Mercy.
Reports from the scene indicate that the driver of the ten-tonne sand truck lost control of the vehicle and it overturned. The incident and preceding events will form part of a police investigation.
Paramedics from Netcare 911 and other ambulances services attended to the four injured people at the scene, one of whom had sustained very serious. The other three people sustained moderate injuries.
The four patients have been transported by ambulances to a hospital for further assessment and care.
The local police authorities and Fire Department were also at the scene.
The M4 southbound is obstructed by the incident and motorists are advised to expect delays.
