Potchefstroom man in a critical condition following a non-fatal drowning

A man, believed to be in his 20s, was left in a critical condition after a non-fatal drowning incident at a public pool in Potchefstroom.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 13h32 and found the local lifeguards performing CPR on the patient.

Paramedics took over the treatment and assessed the man, finding that his vital signs had returned. The man was treated and provided with advanced life support interventions.

Once treatment had been completed, the man was transported to Potchefstroom Provincial Hospital for further treatment.

It is understood that the lifeguards had noticed the man floating in the pool. The man was retrieved and CPR immediately initiated.
