Keeping your golden oldie to ‘save’ on new car repayments is not always the best option when your car is going in for repairs every other day. If your car is faulty, not only are you putting yourself at risk but you are putting your passengers at risk along with anyone else who is on the road around you.
If your car is giving you trouble, it may be time to get rid of your beloved and find something that is more cost-effective, reliable and safer to you and anyone else that crosses paths with you.
Here are some signs to look out for:
- The constant need for car repairs
Car maintenance checks are a regular thing but if each checkup is leading to another car failure and you’re racking up a bill that is only putting you further into debt, then it is time for you to move on. The older the car, the more major the repairs are. For every car, it is absolutely normal to find yourself with a little repair like a flat tyre or low battery charge every now and then, but with older car repairs start to get more extreme and tend to cost you more than the actual car’s value. Today it’s the brake pads and next month it’s the alternator. These are all little red flags that the car needs to go. Before you book your car into the garage for its next check, try to do some research on alternative prices because your local mechanic could really rip you off if you don’t have enough knowledge on your repair.
- Your dashboard lights are always on
Do not ignore the dashboard lights! These lights are extremely important as they are informing you about any problems that are related to your engine. For example, if you don’t fill your oil once the light comes on, you could potentially burn out your engine. If the light continues to flash after filling oil or your car is leaking oil, then there is clearly a bigger problem at hand. If you continue to drive with flashing lights, you are abusing your car, which is going to land you with an even bigger repair bill than you’d anticipated.
- You are worried about your safety
When you start to become worried about your car breaking down, then that’s when you know just how unreliable it actually is. If your brakes are faulty or your security locking system doesn’t work, you are putting yourself and anyone else who may be travelling with you at risk. By driving around and waiting for something bad to happen, you’re an accident waiting to happen.
Another reason to start worrying is if you consciously have your mechanics number on speed dial, just in case something happens to you in an area that you’re concerned about or something new that you’re unfamiliar with. Remember that once one thing starts giving in, everything starts giving in. Your car is supposed to make your life easier by getting you from one place to another, not stress you out more.
- The insurance costs keep rising
The older your car is and the more issues it has, the higher your premiums will be. If there is evidence that your car is depreciating in value, your car is set to be a safety hazard on the roads. Sometimes it could get so bad that you won’t even be able to pass the roadworthy test. If this is the case, you have a serious problem on your hands and you desperately need to look for something else.
New car means new beginnings
All cars have an expiry date, whether you like it or not. We all know that one person who has been driving the same car for years, in fact, when we think about this person the first thing that pops into our heads is their car. And not for the good reasons. Don’t be that person.
While some people are eager to get rid of their old car and find a new-to-them used VW Polo for sale, others are not in the position to do that. There is a big difference between not being able to afford a new car and just wanting to save on those expenses. Whatever the reason, do not put your life in further danger just because you do not want to fork out. It doesn’t need to break the bank but the vehicle you drive needs to be reliable and safe. When you are constantly spending on repairs, you’re just draining your pockets.
If you are looking to get rid of your car, make sure that whatever you choose next gets you from A to B with ease. Let go of the difficulty and anxiety that your car brings you. It’s time for a new start!
