Police work hard to ensure safety through Festive Season Operations

The ongoing Festive Season Joint Operations are still up and running throughout the Province, comprising various Police Units in conjunction with the Provincial and Municipal Traffic Officers. The operations are focusing on the prevention of all categories of crimes.

Today, 19 December 2017, a major crime prevention operation in the form of a roadblock was conducted along the N1, on both south and north-bound lanes. The operation was led by the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba and it commenced with a parade at the Provincial Joint Operation Centre that was commanded by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner responsible for Policing Major General Jan Scheepers. The Polokwane Cluster Commander Major General Sam Mokgonyana, the Provincial Head Corporate Communication Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the Provincial VISPOL Section Heads; Brigadier Mangena-Operational Coordination, Brigadier Tinyani-ORS and Brigadier Maila-Crime Prevention were also in attendance.

Immediately after the parade, a full-blown roadblock ensued along the N1 South between Polokwane and Mokopane outside Polokwane.

The objective of the operation is to strengthen the road Policing strategies for a safer festive season period and to sensitize all motorists about the prevalence of crime trends by distributing the crime prevention hints.

During this road-block, all cars and people were searched thoroughly from both sides of the road and those found to be in contravention of any law such as the road traffic act were issued with spot fines. The focus was also on other illegal items such as unlicensed firearms, stolen motor vehicles, dangerous weapons and the wanted suspects.

Three thousand pamphlets on crime prevention hints were distributed. The Operations are ongoing.
