Ethekwini Outer South Cluster Intelligence driven operation yielded excellent results in the early hours of this morning. With the assistance and teamwork of Durban POP and Ethekwini Outer South Cluster OCC members. A 19 year old male was arrested at Inkwali reserve (Esiqhingini) near KwaSoni.
He was arrested for being in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition that was used in committing robberies in Illovo and surrounding areas. Firearms recovered were 1 x 9mm Norinco pistol with serial number filed off. 1 x 12 gauge shotgun. 1 x 38 Special revolver number filed off. 5 x .38 live rounds, 1 x Z88 magazine, 1 x Norinco Magazine, 10 x red shotgun rounds. 28 x AK47 (7.62 x 39) live rounds. 12 x R1 (7.62 x 51) live rounds. 17 x .22 live rounds, 13 x 9mm live rounds. 48 x 7.65 live rounds. Further 3 x homemade firearms recovered as abandoned outside the suspects home.
Further operations led EOS Intelligence, RRPU-KZN and RRPU – East London and EOS OCC at Umbumbulu and surroundings where a 26 year old male was arrested for Possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. 1 x 9mm Norinco Star pistol with serial number filed off and 8 x 9mm live rounds recovered. Another suspect aged 44 arrested in Umlazi E Section for possession of unlicensed for firearm and ammunition, a 1 x 9 mm Norinco pistol with serial number filed off and 8 x 9mm live rounds recovered.

These recoveries of firearms will definitely have prevented more serious criminal activities from occurring in the Province.”
