Two people were injured after being stabbed an assaulted during an armed robbery in Datura Place in Redcliffe – Verulam a short while ago.
At approximately 12:29 members of Reaction Unit South Africa was dispatched to the home after receiving multiple calls from residents in the area reporting shots being fired. All available Reaction Officers were dispatched to the scene and upon arrival found two people bleeding excessively from stab wounds to their head.
It was established that 5 suspects who were armed with firearms and knives entered the home and held up an elderly couple. They stabbed the 74-year-old man in the head and severely assaulted him. A resident heard the victim’s cry for help and ran to the home where he found the elderly man lying on the floor while being repeatedly kicked on the head and in the face by one of the suspects.
He went to the victim’s aid but was also stabbed in the head. The suspects fled the home and fired shots at other residents who heard the commotion and decided to investigate. One bullet struck a wall narrowly missing one of the neighbor’s. A pair of sandals belonging to one of the suspects was found in the yard (picture 7).
The RUSA Robinson R44 Helicopter lifted off and conducted an extensive aerial search of the area while Reaction Officers conducted a ground search however the suspects still remain at large. It could not be confirmed if they fled on foot or if they had a getaway vehicle parked in the vicinity.
The robbers were seen fleeing the home with two bags however it could not be established what exactly was stolen due to the victims being disoriented.
The injured were treated on scene by paramedics before being transported to a hospital.
