The members of the Provincial Drug Unit team conducted an operation yesterday in the Wentworth area in the fight against drugs. While the members were busy with their operation they received an intelligence driven information about the suspect who was going to deliver drugs in one of the flats at Silvertree road, Wentworth. The team kept observation on the premises and after few minutes the members went inside the flat. A search was conducted and a 26-year-old suspect was found in possession of 1549 capsules of heroin. The total value of the recovered drugs is R47000-00. A cash of R5960-00 suspected to be the proceeds of drugs was also confiscated from the suspect. During the raid it was established that the suspect was supplying drugs to other dealers in the Wentworth and Merebank areas. He was charged for dealing and possession of drugs. He will appear in the Wentworth Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, 1 March 2018.
“The team has proved that we are committed in cleaning our streets off from the drug lords. We also appreciate the information we received from the community about people who are dealing in drugs,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa.
