Three suspects arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms in KwaMashu, KZN

On Saturday 24, Kwamashu police conducted crime prevention operations in the area. While they were patrolling along the corner of Phothwe and Mpangele Roads they were stopped by a complainant who informed them about a shooting incident and they noticed the suspect who had an unlicensed firearm in his possession.
A firearm with one live round of ammunition and an empty cartridge was recovered. The 33-year-old suspect was arrested for attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In another incident yesterday at about 20:15 members were patrolling in the hostel area when they conducted a stop and search operations. A group of males who were standing at Isivumelwano Road was approached by police, however, one male suspect started to run away and police pursued after the suspect and they recovered an unlicensed 9mm firearm and 5 live rounds of ammunition in his possession. The serial numbers of the firearm had been erased. The suspect (33) was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Also, yesterday at about 20:45, while members were doing stop and searches along Malandela Road in E section, members recovered another unlicensed firearm and ammunition from a suspect as well as 7 live rounds of ammunition. The suspect aged 34 was subsequently arrested. All the arrested suspects are expected to briefly appear in Ntuzuma Magistrates Court soon on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm & ammunition.
