A woman who is believed to be a prostitute is in a critical condition after she was shot multiple times on Palm Street in Verulam a short while ago.
At approximately 01:15 members of Reaction Unit South Africa was dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of multiple shots being fired. Upon arrival, a woman was found lying on the side of the road bleeding profusely from a gunshot wound to her face. She was also shot in the chest and twice in the back. Medics stabilised the victim before transporting her to a hospital in a critical condition.
A 9mm spent cartridge and R50 in cash was found at the scene. The motive for the shooting has not been established at this stage.
Police are investigating further.
