With the increase in road traffic accidents, the Port Alfred Cluster continues to be vigilant on all roads. Today whilst the Cluster Commander Brigadier Morgan Govender was returning from a management meeting at East London, he noticed a bronze Ford Ranger driving very fast and in a reckless manner on the R72 towards Port Alfred.
All emergency services on the coast were notified. At the Fish River Bridge police managed to stop the vehicle and as the female driver’s rights were explained to her, she sped off. With blue lights flashing and attempts to stop the vehicle, a high-speed chase continued for over 45 minutes until the Port Alfred OCC set up a vehicle checkpoint where the driver was pulled over.
The suspect, a 53-year-old female has been arrested and faces several charges in terms of the Criminal Procedure Act including Reckless and negligent driving.
