One of the arrest warrants took them to ZuurbergRoad in Heideveld. As they knocked on the door in search of a suspect a man opened the door. As they identified themselves the man quickly turned and walked towards the bedroom. SAPS members followed him and on entering the room they saw a 9mm pistol lying next to the bed. The 9mm pistol with 15 rounds loaded in the magazine had its serial number still attached. It had not been reported stolen and the owner could face serious charges since this is deemed to be a serious offence.
The room was searched and several other calibers of ammunition were also recovered:
36 x 9mm short rounds
14 x 7.65 rounds
10 x .38 Special rounds
5 x unidentified calibre rounds
The 29-year -ld man was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed and illegal firearm and ammunition. On further investigation and enquiry a warrant of arrest was also executed and a 32-year-old man was arrested in Heideveld Road.
Both men will be appearing in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 3 April 2018 on their respective charges.
