Illegal miners arrested in Kimberley

Eight illegal miners have been arrested in connection with the public violence. The arrest is a sequel to an eviction order by the court of the illegal miners at Green Point, Samaria and Kenilworth. One miner was shot in the hand by the Mine security at Green Point after an altercation at about 12:00.

At Samaria, a group of about 300 illegal miners blockaded the R64 along Boshoff road and police were pelted with stones. Police used rubber bullets to disperse the illegal miners. One person was shot with a rubber bullet and has been taken to a local hospital by an ambulance where he is receiving medical treatment.

Police have arrested nine suspects in connection with public violence after barricading the road and pelting the police with stones. Police are monitoring the situation at Green Point, Samaria, and Kenilworth. Currently, the situation is calm.
