Police continue to monitor the situation at Mthatha after threats to close down the town today was received.
Police continued with a heavy presence and high visibility patrol of Mthatha and surroundings.
Roadblocks were also done on all the entry roads to the town including Vigdesville, Port St Johns, Engcobo and Qumbu and Tsolo routes.
Police removed a few burning tires in different parts of the town. No arrests were affected and no injuries reported.
Shops have opened and there appears to be relative calm in the towns and neighboring area.
Police, Provincial traffic, Ksd Traffic and Ksd Law enforcement, NIU and Stabilising Team will continue with visibility and heavy presence throughout the week.
