Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to a farm on Compensation Road – Esenembe this morning after receiving calls of a Farm Attack & a missing victim.
Upon arrival, Reaction Officers were met with family members of the victims. According to farmers in the area, they had arrived at the Moonsamy’s residence at approx 05:00am (Thursday) when they noticed that the couple had not been seen in the mornings as usual. They heard a cry for help from inside the residence & eventually forced open a door using a hammer & axe.
72-year-old Moonsamy was found tied with telephone cables. Moonsamy had suffered extensive facial & bodily injuries and was covered in blood. Family members searched the house and could not locate his wife known as aunty Vee. She was eventually found bound & gagged and lying dead between a wall and a bed. Paramedics treated the male victim & transported him to hospital.
It was established that the couple was held up last night at approx 21:00 by three armed suspects when they returned from the market where they conducted their business. They then tied the couple up and ransacked the house. Steve Moonsamy was then held in the kitchen while his wife was kept in the bedroom. According to Moonsamy he was unaware that his wife was murdered. He was repeatedly assaulted with his own shotgun that the suspects found & played dead when he realized that the attackers were known to him. He was found on barely alive on the kitchen floor eight (8) hours later.
Jewels, firearms and other valuables were taken.
