A 25-year-old male suspect will appear in the King Williamstown Magistrate’s court on Wednesday 2/5 following his arrest by the SAPS in King Williams Town
after he allegedly demanded cash from a victim in the early hours of Monday morning.
The terrified victim managed to escape from this gun wielding suspect who fired a shot and fled. The SAPS members who were alerted conducted a search and managed to arrest the suspect in a car with a pistol. On searching the suspects residence in Dimbaza a police uniform a R5 rifle with 35 rounds were seized by King Williams Town police tracing unit, crime prevention and other specialised units. Several charges including possession of unlicensed firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of SAPS uniform was opened in Dimbaza.
Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga commended the team for their swift action and added “I have communicated with the Cluster Commander to ensure that the detective team who will be investigating this case will look into how this suspect came into possession of SAPS uniform as well as the possibility of him being linked to other cases. The firearms will also undergo several forensic tests,” she said.
