Just before 13H00 on Saturday 05 May 2018, Netcare 911 and other paramedics responded to reports of a drowning at a house in the Durban North area.
Reports from the scene allege that the child was found unresponsive in the swimming pool.
A Netcare 911 Emergency Care Practitioner initiated an Advanced Life Support resuscitation. Tragically however, despite the efforts of the medical team, the five-year-old boy died at the scene. Documentation pertaining to his death was completed by Netcare 911 and handed over to the authorities.
The Greenwood Park SAPS were at the scene to investigate the incident.
It is hoped and anticipated that the number of drowning incidents will reduce during the coming winter season. However alcohol and diving accidents remain a risk for adults and unprotected swimming pools, jacuzzi’s, water features and other water hazards around the house remain a risk for small children throughout the year.
