Swift police action led to the speedy arrest of armed robbers

Five men were arrested by Ngqeleni Crime Prevention members on the R61 road today,10 May 2018 at about 14h00.

It is alleged that at about 12h00 five suspects armed with two pistols arrived at Philani store and demanded money at gunpoint and afterward fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes.

A manhunt was launched by police that resulted in the arrest of all five suspects. Police recovered 2 × 9mm Norinco pistols with 6 rounds of ammunition, the cash that was taken during the robbery and cigarettes and the silver-grey BMW that was used during the commission of the crime was seized.

Both firearms will be sent for ballistic testing and the suspects will appear before Ngqeleni Magistrate Court tomorrow, 11 May 2018 facing charges of armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and illegal possession of ammunition.

The Acting Cluster Commander Brigadier Nomawethu Makonza applauded the members and said ” it is only through your dedication and commitment that we can make our communities feel safe. I applaud you all for your quick response in arresting these suspects and confiscating the firearms”.
