A nine-year-old boy was left critically injured this afternoon when he was knocked over by a bakkie on Carrick Road in Mavlern, KwaZulu Natal.
ER24 paramedics, along with another service, arrived on the scene to find the body of a boy lying in the middle of the road. The bakkie that had collided with the patient was found parked a short distance away.
Paramedics assessed the boy and found that he had sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition.
Paramedics treated the patient and provided him with advanced life support interventions, as well as placing him on a ventilator. Once treated, the boy was transported by another service, with an ER24 advanced life support paramedic, to RK Khan Provincial Hospital for urgent treatment.
The driver of the bakkie fortunately escaped injury.
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
