Nine vigilant members attached to the Grassy Park SAPS Crime Prevention Unit responded to a shooting incident in Komolosie Street, Cafda at about 17:00 on Monday 2018-06-18. Upon members’ arrival they found a man that had been fatally wounded. They chased after the suspect and caught him in Cradock Road, Cafda. Members searched the suspect and found a black 9mm pistol with one magazine and nine live rounds. The serial number of the firearm had been filed off.
The 27 year old suspect was arrested on charges related to murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition and possession of a prohibited firearm.
Later the same evening at about 23:00 a 20 year old man from New Haven flats in Ottery was arrested after information had been followed up by the same members. A silver and black 9mm pistol with one magazine and seven live rounds of ammunition were confiscated. When the suspect saw the police he threw the firearm out the window at the back of the building, into the waiting hands of SAPS members. The arrested suspect faces charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.
Both suspects will make their first appearance in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court, once charged.
Police members were thanked for their hard work and dedication towards fighting crime and bringing those in conflict with the law to book.
