Members of Reaction Unit South Africa called in a locksmith to open a door at a home in Trenance Park – Verulam earlier today to free a woman and her child after they were locked indoors and kept inside the premises against their will.
The RUSA Operations Center received a call at 10:42 (Thursday) from a woman in Johannesburg seeking assistance for her sister who was locked up in a home after she tried to leave the premises to board a bus for Cape Town.
Reaction Officers arrived at the premises in Haven-wood – Trenance Park and found two woman locked inside the home. A young boy and a girl were also found inside the home with burglar guarded windows and doors. Both doors to the premises were locked. The woman explained that they both were married to the same man & lived in the same home. The husband locked the doors and removed the keys early this morning after one of the wives threatened to leave back to Woodstock – Cape Town. She had packed her belongings & decided to leave with her child after they quarreled over Watsapp messages. The woman informed Reaction Officers that she was assaulted & that her husband had boarded a taxi to Isipingo to visit his family & took the house keys with him. She then sent messages to her sister in Gauteng who contacted RUSA for assistance.
Reaction Officers made several attempts to contact the man & his phone was eventually switched off. After standing off for an hour Officers called a locksmith to the premises and unlocked the door. She then left the home.
The second wife explained to Officers that she granted her husband permission to live on the property with his new wife and stepson after he approached her pleading for accommodation. She added that she regretted her decision after they began fighting & assaulting each other on a regular basis.
