Two arrested in massive drug lab bust in Harding, KZN

Two people were arrested on Wednesday in a major drug operation in Harding, KwaZulu-Natal.

A multi-disciplinary team comprising of the Hawks, Crime Intelligence and Port Shepstone’s TRT and K9 is currently searching a farm where a huge clandestine drug manufacturing laboratory was found.

Various elements of the SAPS Forensic Unit are currently administering the crime scene where large quantities of narcotics that resembles Mandrax and paraphernalia are being processed.

The extent and value of the drugs is yet to be determined pending the ongoing investigations.

The operation comes in the wake of months of collaborative investigations.

The Minister of Police, Minister Bheki Cele has welcomed the arrest and the discovery of the clandestine laboratory.

“Drugs and substance abuse is a serious problem and we will find these so called factories and shut them one by one. We will continue with the strengthening of the multi-disciplinary approach in responding to crimes of this nature, and intensify our campaign by working together with our sister departments and relevant stakeholders in the fight against drug and substance abuse,” said Minister Cele.

The National Commissioner of Police General Khehla Sitole and the National Head of the DPCI Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya also welcomed the success.
