Immediate response to a complaint of shooting in Gelvandale resulted in a high speed chase which started in Stanford Road and ended in Ditchling Road in Algoa Park.
It is alleged that on Friday, 28 July 2018 at about 23:30, an 18-year-old male and his friend who are affiliated to the Kakdalers gang were standing in front of a house in Chamois Street when they were approached by the suspect. The suspect asked the teenagers for something and when they said that they didn’t have anything, he took out a firearm and fired two shots at one of them. The victim sustained bullet wounds to his chest and arm. His friend was not injured. Suspect ran away.
At the same time PE Flying Squad was responding to the incident when they spotted a suspicious black VW Golf with no registration plates speeding away towards Standford Road. The members chased after the vehicle and managed to stop it in Algoa Park. A 9mm pistol and ammunition was seized and 3 suspects aged 22,25 and 28 were arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, handling of a firearm without a valid permit/licence and possession of stolen property. The suspects are affiliated to the NTB gang. The VW Golf was also confiscated by police. The firearm was positively stolen in Plettenburg in January 2017. Suspects will appear in court on Monday, 30/07.
The Provincial Gang Investigation Unit is investigating both cases with a possible link to the arrested persons.
In another unrelated shooting, during the early hours of this morning, 28 July 2018, a 21-year-old male was allegedly shot in his stomach by a member of the Fatcats gang. According to police information, the victim and the suspect was drinking together at a house in Highfield Road in Shauderville when an argument broke out between them. About 20 minutes later, the two became embroiled in a physical altercation and the suspect pulled out a firearm and shot the victim in his stomach. Suspect ran away. The Provincial Gang Investigation Unit is investigating a case of attempted murder.
