Nine suspects due in court for operating illegal taverns in Lwandle, Western Cape

In continuing with our efforts to bring a stop to the illegal sale of alcohol, Lwandle police recently closed down nine illegal taverns, confiscated large volumes of alcohol and arrested nine suspects in Lwandle policing precinct.

The arrest were made during police operations, which were conducted from Thursday 2018-07-26 between 08:00 up until yesterday at 02:00 (Monday, 2018-07-30). While the police were on patrol during these operations, they noticed community members purchasing alcohol and some sitting inside these premises drinking liquor.

Members immediately investigated these transgressions, confiscated over 210 litres of alcohol and registered cases of selling liquor without licence.

The suspects, between the ages 29 and 55 were charged with dealing in liquor without license.

All the nine arrested suspects were charged for selling liquor without a licence and released with a warning to appear in the Strand Magistrate Court this morning (Tuesday, 2018-07-31).
