The South African Police Service in Addo in conjunction with detectives from the Uitenhage Cluster Operational Command Centre have launched a manhunt for four suspects who allegedly robbed an elderly couple, that are originally from Cape Town, in the early hours (00:40) of this morning, Monday, 20 August 2018.
It is alleged that security officers responded to an alarm at a business premises that is situated next to the R335 (Addo) at about 00:35, this morning. Upon arrival the security officials heard the sound of a car alarm and investigated. The security officials found a couple (both in their 80’s) locked inside their cottage after it was allegedly burgled. It is alleged that four armed suspects entered the cottage through an unlocked door, the suspects threatened the couple with firearms and demanded cash and cellphones. The suspects then went to the vehicle and removed items from the vehicle and fled on foot from the scene with the couple’s car keys, an undisclosed amount of cash, camera and cellphones. Uitenhage Cluster detectives are investigating a case of house robbery and detectives are following up on all possible leads. The couple did sustain injuries and were taken for medical treatment.
The South African Police Service appeal to business owners to be vigilant of any suspicious behaviour and to ensure they utilize the security measures that are in place. Doors and windows must always be locked, especially during night time.
