Committed to keeping the Western Cape communities safe, members attached to Operation Thunder’s K9 Unit were patrolling all areas with vigilance. Last night, Wednesday 22 August 2018 at about 22:15, these members arrested a 20 year old man for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Fawley Court, Lavender Hill. Members were busy with stop and search activities in the precinct because of ongoing shootings in the area, when they saw a suspicious looking person, and stopped and searched him. Members confiscated a 9mm Norinco pistol with no serial number and 15 live rounds of ammunition.
In an unrelated case, early this morning Thursday 23 August 2018 at about 00:40, the same members arrested a 34 year old man for the possession of ammunition at a premises in Sonata Street, Steenberg, after they had searched the premises. The members confiscated 44 rounds of ammunition.
The arrested suspects will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ court, once they have been charged.
