SAPS members in the Mount Road policing cluster remain resolute to ensuring that the people of Nelson Mandela Bay and its surrounding areas are and feel safe. Our members including the specialised units are serious on stamping the authority of the State by tackling criminals head on.
On Tuesday, 28 August 2018 at about 16:20, members of PE K9 unit were patrolling in Shauderville when they spotted a suspicious vehicle parked at the corners of Glendenning and Dinsmore Roads with 3 male occupants inside. When the registration number was checked, it came up positive as a hijacked vehicle. When the members turned their vehicle around, the driver of the white Kia Picanto started to drive away. Backup was requested and the Visible Gang Intervention Team, Gelvandale CPU, Algoa Park CPU and Kabega police responded. The members succeeded in stopping it and the occupants were arrested. The vehicle was hijacked in the Humewood area earlier this month. The suspects aged 19-23 were detained on a charge of possession of suspected stolen vehicle.
While members were busy effecting the arrests, the community became hostile and police left the area. While driving in Dinsmore Street, VGIT members noticed a black bakkie with a wanted suspect inside. The bakkie was pulled over and the suspect forced out of the vehicle. As police pulled the suspect’s hand out of his pants, they found a 9mm pistol tucked inside. The suspect, aged 29 is wanted for a murder and robbery which took place in Lawler Street Shauderville on 15/08/2018 where one person was shot several times while sitting outside his house with a friend. It is alleged that three suspects approached, armed with firearms, shot the deceased and robbed them of gold rings, music systems and cash. A 42-year-old man was fatally wounded. The suspect is detained on charges of murder, robbery and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Mount Road Cluster Commander, Maj Gen Thembisile Patekile has re-iterated that “It is encouraging to note that from a proactive perspective our members are in the faces of criminals and we will not rest until they are flushed out and behind bars. We are serious about turning the tide on crime and criminals”.
