An elderly couple were injured after they were assaulted during a robbery at their home on Dawnview Drive in Redcliffe.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene by a resident reporting the incident. Upon arrival of Reaction Officers it was established that the couple aged 68 arrived at their wood and iron home shortly after visiting their local clinic when they were accosted by two suspects who were armed with knives.
One suspect dragged the female victim into the home while his accomplice assaulted her husband on his head with a hammer. The suspects robbed the victims for R250 in cash. They then loaded house items into the victims Toyota Corolla and drove up an unpaved road where they offloaded the stolen goods into their getaway vehicle. They then returned to the home to allegedly steal more items however the Toyota Corolla switched off and failed to start. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. The incident was witnessed by a neighbor who contacted RUSA for assistance. An intense search was conducted for the suspects however they still remain at large.
The male victim sustained a laceration to his head and was transported privately to a medical facility.
