Eleven people were held up while celebrating a relative’s birthday at a home on Sunlark Drive in Oaklands – Verulam.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the home after receiving a call from a neighbor reporting the robbery. Upon arrival it was established that five armed men entered the home during the celebration.
The suspects were neatly dress and wore caps & gloves. The armed men demanded cash and valuables from the victims which included four men, five women and three children before locking them up in a bedroom. The suspects then ransacked the home in search of valuables.
An undisclosed amount of cash as well as eight cellphones were stolen. One suspect was injured after he cut his foot when he stood on a broken ornament. The suspects fled the scene in an awaiting white Ford Ranger bakkie. None of the victims were injured during the robbery.
An extensive search was conducted for the suspects however no arrests were made.
