Stuck Accelerator Pedal Blamed for Accident at Temple Valley, KZN

Five (5) occupants of a white Mazda Rustler bakkie sustained injuries after the vehicle crashed into a tree on Lotus Road in Temple Valley – Verulam a short while ago.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa arrived on scene at approx 15:55 this afternoon (Saturday) & found the bakkie extensively damaged. The female driver & a four (4) year old male child suffered minor injuries. The child was using a safety belt at the time of impact.

Paramedics then stabilized three (3) male passengers who were seated at the rear of the bakkie. One passenger was ejected from the vehicle & suffered fractures to both his legs when he landed against the tree trunk.

The second passenger suffered serious injury when he hit his head on a steel rim (picture 2). The third passenger suffered minor injuries.

According to the 42 year old driver, she was traveling to the Verulam Cbd from Waterloo to purchase airtime & cigarettes for her tuckshop when the accelerator cable jammed. The woman explained that the brakes & clutch also failed & she lost control of the vehicle & collided with the tree.

The injured were treated on scene and transported to Osindisweni Hospital.
