The vigilant and swift policing of the SAPS K9 Unit in Calvinia stopped a major drug consignment, allegedly from Gauteng Province en route to the Western Cape, in its tracks. The drugs were intercepted when police spotted the suspicious looking courier bakkie at a petrol station in Calvinia, Northern Cape.
On Thursday, 19 September 2018 at about 09:00 am the bakkie was searched and police found what is alleged to 81 000 Mandrax tablets stashed in 6 boxes. The drugs has an estimated street value of over 8 Million Rand and police arrested the 27-year-old male driver. The courier bakkie was also confiscated as it was allegedly utilized in the commission of crime.
The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lt Gen Risimati Shivuri applaud the SAPS members for their professional and assertive work that led to this marvellous arrest. The suspect should be appearing in the Calvinia Magistrates Court soon.
