An undercover operation by Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation and Crime Intelligence has led to the arrest of two suspects aged 41 and 55 on Thursday evening for alleged illegal possession of twenty (20) rhino horns.
The Hawks assisted by Benoni K9 and Nature Conservation Personnel followed up on information and swooped on a house in Standerton, Mpumalanga and seized 20 rhino horns valued at approximately R7.6 million as well as an unlicensed revolver with 5 rounds of ammunition.
The pair is expected to appear at the Standerton Regional Court on Tuesday next week to face charges of illegal dealing and possession of rhino horns and that of unlicensed firearm. Investigations still continue.
